People do internet searches on family surnames and towns of  origin. Many of our old maps not only list  the family name but also show the location of their home! Sometimes even the family business is listed and shown. Old photos often show buildings that are no longer there. I may even have a picture of the school or church that your parents went to. Look for old bridges, railroad stations, and streets that have changed.
